Arowanas tend to change colour as they grow according to their enviorement and water. And this particular type, is just a normal arowana, also called "kelisa" by local malaysians, Cheap somemore!!! kah.kah.kah....Becomes ugly when it gets old. the dragon-red,gold etc are much better lookin! I would have expected a rare marine fish to be the most expensive. Anyway, hope some other fish wins this title soon. chow!

Im very suprised that this is the most expensive fish just because of its colouration. I have lots of expensive goldfish and other fish too. But i don't know why these fish (Arowana) are so expensive rather than other fish. They looks like fish which we eat in our meal. Why people are crazy about Arowana?

I am also one of the fan of Aquarium fish. I have lots of expensive goldfish and other fish too. I bought him when he was a baby about 2 inches long for $12. Five years later he grew to 2 feet living in our 50 gallon tank living off of live feeder gold fish. Tragedy struck when we had a need to clean/fix the tank he was in. We transferred him and all the other fish we had to another tank that only had a heater in it. When my husband returned home from work the heater was broken and Marley was dead. All we could gather was that he must have snapped at the heater when it was on (glowing orange) mistaking it for a gold fish, swallowing glass. Distraught, my husband buried him in the yard. Where as for me, I thought what great fillets we could have had. Had I known it was the most expensive fish (somehow I find that hard to believe) we should have had it stuffed. Anyway, he was an awesome fish. Very prehistoric.

My husband and I used to have an Arowana named Marley.
I bought him when he was a baby about 2 inches long for $12.
