Most Expensive Cat Breed

most expensive cat
A Bengal named Asia

Is $42,000 too much to pay for a house cat? Well, various sources have reported that a London, England resident didn’t think so when she purchased her second-generation Bengal cat in 1998 for about £25,320. This expensive cat was listed in the Guiness’ number one spot for most expensive cat breed purchased. They aren’t normally that expensive, but they don’t come cheap. Bengals can cost anywhere from $970 – $4000. The International Cat Association, recognizes the Bengal as a pedigree of cat, however the Cat Fanciers’ Association, the largest and oldest registry of cats, does not. This is because they have ‘wild’ or ‘non-domestic’ blood in their recent heritage. The second-generation Bengal in question was reportedly a hybrid of a wild Asian leopard cat bred with a domestic one.

Ashera GD
An “Ashera”

British entrepreneur Simon Brodie also offered some expensive cats—the hypoallergenic cat by Allerca for $6,000 and the Ashera by Lifestyle Pets for $28,000. The hypoallergenic claim, however, was never independently proven and three Ashera cats seized on their way to the Netherlands were proven to be resold Savannah cats originally from a US breeder.

Any cat may provide a (feline) lifetime of entertainment and companionship for their owners. However, a new Lexus convertible and a cat from the SPCA might be a better way to spend your money than $40,000+ for the most expensive cat in the world.

Hi I was wondering where to go to inquire about purchasing one of these cats.

  2. Posted by Abby 3rd May, 2008 at 8:22 pm

I think AShera’s are cute as kittens but as adults, their faxes are a bit too long. That’s why I prefer Bengal’s. I breed Hybrid cats & I’ve sold these prize winners for $50, 000 a piece. Females are about $5, 000 less expensive than males because males are more ‘pure’ so…

Just curious… If one of these cats doesn’t have the “perfect look” (exactly like the one before it) what happens to them? Are they sold? If so, what do they run and how can I find one?

How can you get this kitty? Its sooo cute!!! I want it!!!!!!

  5. Posted by Kristen 20th September, 2008 at 10:13 am

Why don’t you guys run over to a shelter and get an abandoned cat or dog? There are millions that are sacrificed because they don’t have homes :(

  6. Posted by ariana 23rd September, 2008 at 8:44 pm

well i think th cat is very actracttive but if you want a intresting cat look at its personality not its colers.the cats personalty makes it a beter friend.Do you realy want a cat that hates you just because it looks good?!!!

where do you get this kitty i have got a lot of money right here in a pile ready to be sold on this cute kitty does anybody no where to get one?

Those Ashera cats are just sevannahs and bengals he bought from regular breeders and marketed to the rich and stupid. (how anyone that naive can keep any money at all is a wonder) Do an internet search for Bengals and Sevannahs (they stand 4 feet tall) and you’ll find plenty of cats…without the pricetag.

Jodie, Ariana and Kristen have brains. You should go to a shelter and get an animal rather than spending ALL your money on the cat you could buy more stuff for your cat if you don’t spend as much just buying the cat. W.O.W.

this is soooo wierd cause I think we have one and I found her at a shelter parking lot…….shes the most hyper thing in the whole wide world and never stops playing lol so check the animal shelters cause I found one there and it helps them…

that cat is very pretty but if it does have some type of wildness in it i dont want it to be in my house .it cost a lot but i’d buy it.

Come on guys, I got my cat out of my back yard (literally!), and I love him to bits. I don’t see the point in paying 50K on a cat when you can get them for 0-50 dollars EASY. It’s just a status symbol, to pride yourself. “I have a cat that’s worth 50,000 dollars!” Congrats, you could have gotten 1000+ cats out of a shelter with that money.
    Or saved twice as many.

40,000 was it right ? … if i had it i would spend it …
right after i got my self a new supercomputer ………
I love cats … but no more than i love people …. but still – if 40,000 is the price for soul to be free – I would pay it …

omg that is SO rite….i really want this beauteful looking cat…and u dont need to spend so much money on one just cus it seems like the easiest and quikest option….with some reasearch and looking about ill find the perfect Bengal feline….it does not always have to take 50k to find one…it can take abit of time and effort…..yeh ;D

  15. Posted by Amanda 23rd January, 2009 at 5:14 pm

Seriously, instead of paying 50 grand for this “special” cat, these wealthy people should donate that hefty chunk of cash to a shelter. This way the money helps more cats in need instead of purchasing a status symbol. 50 Grand for a cat. Seriously!

these cats are delicious in stew. I had my mother in law (or in as we call them in my culture, Shikamas) over for dinner. I served this cat and she went nuts!!

There is no such thing as an Ashera cat. It has been proven by DNA that they are the Savannah cat. This has been made public in June 2008. Please do your research before you buy from this fraud Simon Brodie who has been buying Savannah cats and re-selling them as something they are not. Thank you

  20. Posted by Jennelle 20th April, 2009 at 9:04 am

yeah i think that people should not buy cats… there is so many free cats in the world and they are much cuter… and nicer. If i do say myself.. I am 12 but i dont think it’s right to be buying a cat that costs so much when so many cats are dieing.

  21. Posted by Robert 27th July, 2009 at 11:00 am

The Ashera cat is a marketing hype that Brodie invented and applied to Savanna and Bengal cat hybrids that he acquired from breeders. He pays $2000 to $5000 for the cat and turns around and sells it through clever marketing to rich and unsuspecting buyers for up to $40,000. This man has spent time in prison for fraud in Britain. He has had numerous other “business” ventures that flopped or turned out to be get rich schemes. Don’t belive everything you hear, see, or read. This man is the proverbial Snake Oil Sam but in a much more clever disquise. He claims to have the world’s first hypoalergenic cats-this to is also a farce. Google search his name and you will see how much dirt comes up on this world famous scam artist.

Knowone is going to believe me but me and my boyfriend just adopted one of thease cats for free! he was a stray that had been living in our friends backyard, so we decided to give him a loving home. I thought he had very amazing markings so I decided to do some research and find out what bread he is and as it turns out he is a bangle cat. Which is really cool I think he is an amazing cat and has a wonderful personality. I do have one question tho he is not nuttered yet ! Do you think I should do that to him or no. Your answers will really help me out alot thankyou!

Absolutly beuitful cat, very regal in appreance.

  29. Posted by Lauren 4th November, 2009 at 2:50 am

in my opinion, if you are allergic to cats and cant get a regular one then go for it! if not… get a regular savannah or just adopt from your local shelter..

$22,000 is A LOT of money dont get me wrong… but think about it…. i mean … people spend so much money on new cars and expensive jewelry… and for what? It’ll mean NOTHING to you in 10 years. The Ashera GD lives for almost 30 years and in my opnion… 30 yrs of unconditional love is worth sooooooooo much more than a brand new car or a new stereo system. And the $22,000 isnt JUST for the cat. Toys, microchipping, neutering, and an animal behaviorist are ALL included.

People say “it’s just a cat”… but if you love cats … it would mean so much more to you than that. Asheras are loyal, very vocal, and extremely affectionate. In my opinion, that’s not “just a cat”… thats a best friend…. can’t put a price on that. :)

  30. Posted by Amberley 14th November, 2009 at 10:14 am

Lauren, you must be a breeder. I was a breeder for years and this is the type of statement I would also make when selling a kitten!
I stopped breeding because of all the hundreds of cats and kittens killed every day/week/month in shelters, and a high price tag will not guarantee a nice nature.

  31. Posted by Amberley 14th November, 2009 at 10:22 am

Question Lauren – so the higher the price tag the less allergic ? Just wondered if I missed that bit of vital info whilst breeding. (Didn’t use this one to sell my kittens because its not true unless its hairless!)

  32. Posted by allstar 20th November, 2009 at 6:37 pm

    I totally agree with Kristen.

  33. Posted by Lauren 27th November, 2009 at 8:11 pm

I’m actually not a breeder… That was just my opinion.. Haha

  34. Posted by Lauren 27th November, 2009 at 8:14 pm

I’m actually not a breeder… That was just my opinion.. Haha… But when it comes to hairless cats.. They are not truely hypoallergenic because they still produce Fel d1 which is the main allergen.. However.. If u bathe it a lot you’ll be fine I guess.. Idk

  35. Posted by mimi 29th November, 2009 at 3:46 pm

i think it’s a waste to buy a cat for that much money. it is cute, true, but my cat was a stray, he’s adorable, and he is very intelligent. and i payed for the vet only. :) but bengals are adorable. also, tabbies are more companionable than the highly intelligent, large, beautiful bengal. and i dont think their’s such thing as a truely “hypoallergenic”, because all cats produce the hormone that makes pple allergic, and even a hairless cat still makes it. so omething with as much fur as a bengal makes much more than a rex or sphinx.

  36. Posted by usama 30th November, 2009 at 7:31 am

this cat is wonder full but this breed are not use ful

  37. Posted by Andi 18th January, 2010 at 6:28 pm

Gosh these cats are amazing, but really people, would you rather buy one cat and have hundreds put down, for the same price? I have a tabby~e is my best friend~ when I got him at a shelter, he was purring! they are one of the best cat breeds available! I also favor the Japanese bobtail and the calico. Please don’t spend so much money on one cat, when you could be saving hundreds.

  38. Posted by Shannon 22nd January, 2010 at 1:55 pm

I would not pay that much. However, for those who are telling others to get one from a shelter… If someone wants to spend money like that, then that is their choice. Everyone has priorities and who are we to push ours on them? More cute shelter cats for the rest of us to love I guess.

  39. Posted by emie 27th January, 2010 at 11:52 am
