Most Expensive Chocolate

Written by: tom Filed Under: Food, Luxury, World on February 3rd, 2007

Fritz Knipschildt is the architect behind the most expensive chocolate in the world and is sometimes called the Willy Wonka of Connecticut. He founded Knipschildt Chocolatier in South Norwalk, Connecticut in 1999 and brought his Danish culinary training with him. All of his chocolates are handmade artisan products using only the freshest natural ingredients, with no additives or preservatives. He sells a chocolate called the Madeleine that must be ordered in advance. The Madeleine contains a creamy truffle ganache made from French Valrhona chocolate blended with fresh cream infused with vanilla pods and pure Italian truffle oil.

This extravagant yet simple ganache then has a French Perigold truffle rolled inside of it and the whole thing is dusted with cocoa powder. The ingredients alone don’t explain why this truffle chocolate is the world’s most expensive chocolate ever sold. Mr. Knipschildt’s explanation for the price tag is the tremendous amount of work that goes into producing these chocolates. The ganache is whipped and folded by hand for a long time to make it as silky as humanly possible, and he even has to perform the hand rolling of the Perigold truffle inside of the ganache within a refrigerated room so that the ganache hardens ever so slightly enough to be workable. Each one of these luscious truffle chocolates has a price tag of $250, making the confection cost approximately $2,600 per pound in quantity.

The Madeleine must be ordered in advance, and each chocolate comes with a personally signed card explaining how it was made and a unique serial number. Mr. Knipshildt has certainly created the world’s most expensive chocolate confection, and it’s probably worth every penny.

There is a car out there that costs a million dollars, and houses that can cost 10 million. So it stands to reason that there would be a chocolate that costs $250.00 a piece. I think this type of chocolate appeals to only the finest “chocoholic” Lets face it people, this is not a Hershey bar. I love it and would love to try one!!!

Speaking about the most expensive chocolate, actually the new collection spring / summer 2008 from COCOA GOURMET. When you look at their website, it’s the top of the top in luxury chocolate. Well looking is free so here’s the link: swisscocoagourmet.com

Knipschildt chocolate is NOT anymore the most expensive, you are right Cecilia. COCOA GOURMET chocolate is now the most expensive specially with their latest collection spring summer 2008 which is based on chocolate and jewellery. It is incredible what this Swiss chocolate company can do with chocolate. And even their precious wooden box are explosive… I will just finish with BRAVO Chef Laurent & Chef Daniella Nessi for bringing us to a new chocolate adventure rich in taste and splendid for the eyes! You are really the best.

I have no idea how I found this post… Really, I do not. But, reading the description. Reading all of the posts… My heart starting racing and my mouth watering like a busted water main… Wow, kudos to the folks who invested the time in making this little morsel of heaven and even bigger kudos to the folks that can afford to invest by purchasing this little round ball of brown ecstasy. I swear though… I think it must be made out of the souls of orphan babies to cost as much as it does per piece. Would love to try one sometime… probably in my next life where I have plans to be cleanly rich!

I find it humorous that people will go to a site entitled “most-expensive” and complain about prices.

    it,s to tastyyyyyyyyyyyyyy.i love it.my dearest chocolate.

  26. Posted by CHEFGEORGENUNEZ 25th December, 2009 at 2:35 am

I think this is wonderful, One could purchase the proper coco and chocolate and Heavy cream and the correct temperatured refrigerated room to handle chocolate. This alone is a heavy cost to the producer of the chocolate itself. If one doesnt want to pay for this kind of elite fancy. Then find out how to make it yourself and you could produce wonderful truffel and have the experience of flavoring it decorating it and presenting. This experince to me is worth more than the $250.00 and if one is lazy or doestn know how is ones lost, Sorry Charley no money no Honey Part of life one cannot be a conosoure with out paying the price. As a Chef its EASY MONEY.

Okay guys and girls.. Why keep saying wooah that’s too much for a chocolate.

THIS IS A SITE ABOUT THE MOST EXPENSIVE STUFF!

Of course it’s too expensive for most people that’s the point. When people have a lot of money they want to experience the best that humanity has to offer and here it is!! (according to the price tag at least)..
