Hi! I know that there is this kind of coffee that exists in the Philippines and was exhibited in New York City some years ago and it's called COFFEE ALAMID. Alamid is the equivalent of palm civet in the Philippines. If my memory serves me right, the manufacturer of this kind of coffee is from Laguna or Batangas I think. It was also featured as the 'most expensive' coffee in the world, last year or 2 years ago.

I first heard of this coffee in the movie -'The Bucket List'.
Like the characters in the movie, my spouse has cancer - his is a very rare type - (95% chance that it is treatable) He likes his coffee, said he would like to try it, so I have ordered 4oz for $85.00. Small price to pay to bring a smile to the one I love.

It may sound gross and taboo...i have tasted this kind of coffee from our country, the PHILIPPINES...like from the previous posts, it is from the droppings of a wild civet. It really chooses good quality coffee cherries while leaving the beans undigested for picking.. it may sound disgusting but essentially its taste is good..the aroma is the same but theres this tinge of chocolate for me.. im no expert in coffee tasting but this is what it taste like for me.. its worth to taste this kind of coffee at our time since it does not affect the life of the wild civet..as previously stated..the civet is currently an endangered specie...so i m just glad that i tasted this rare kind of coffee before the civet hits the history books..worth to try!!!

It is true that the coffee has existed in the Philippines for decades as has been pointed out on the above posts but somehow Indonesia gets cited more often for reasons that the Philippines is always overlooked among Asian countries in many ways or another. However, a kittie litter does not necessarily translate into a brew though I understand the sarcasm. I won't mind having that coffee.

I was reading these comments and I have to say...you guys crack me up. How true most of it is. Got to thinking about whoever decided to eat an egg. "Oh look what fell out of that chickens butt, let's eat it!". Can't begin to imagine what prompted someone to drink milk but thank goodness they did. The things people do out of necessity such as searching thru kitty grunt for coffee beans and then brewing it. Saw the documentaries on it and they say it is the best cup of joe you will ever drink and I would love to try it. Not big on Starbucks but I would try the civets version although not sure why I would even think of doing it other than....I just gotta see what the hype is all about!!!! Thank Goodness for Google....y'all made my morning....all over a discussion about coffee in the office this morning. I will laugh about this for days!!!

What a laugh!
I wonder if a Grizzly Bear ate some; or a Water Buffalo did; or, maybe a Duck?? Would there be the same blind romanticisim?

Insipid are we who have never tried this; as one avid commentator for humankind-"Meno" has blerted in the lines above!

Insipid, whatever you reckon; I remember being disgusted by an article in an "Easyrider" magazine; wherein it was written that some prefer the tangy taste of feline droppings upon their steak to gravy...
" The runnier, the better!"
Does that make me insipid because of my utter disgust over digesting the droppings of another creature?
Are you insipid to that point, "Meno"?
I honestly don't care if you wrote the easy- rider article.
Don't judge us!

Not for this puppy; living foecal colliforms are most probably eradicated by the roasting and brewing processes of this, most unusual of beverages; and those who want to pay top dollar for the thrill of drinking coffee; with a hint of reconstituted gastro- intestinal juices from an animal that is wandering towards the endangered- species list... don't hang off too long hey!

YOU MIGHT MISS OUT!
Peace and love to all!

I had a chance to try some last week, and it was amazingly good. And because they have to be so meticulous about cleaning it, it actually has less bacteria than regular mass-produced coffee.

Now to find an authentic source for it. There are tons of web sites claiming to sell it, but like everything else, most are fakes, everything from pre-picked beans fed to caged civets, to regular flavored coffee in fancy bags. :(

I live in Indonesia and there is a small equivalent to Starbucks that is actually called Coffe Luwak, the coffe is a little bit more expensive than a regular coffe, the thruth is I foubd out where the coffe came from after a few months of regular drinking, so it was not a real shock.
I tried coffe from West Papua, it has a lot of caracter and is quite good also. Hope theses guys will be able to export it, it is cultured in a remote mmountainous area, and the beans have to be flown out there.
