Cognac, like Champagne, is named after the area of France from whence it originates. In order to be considered worthy of the name, the brandy must be produced in the area surrounding the town of Cognac and it must be made at least 90% from three varieties of grapes that grow in the region—Ugni Blanc, Folle Blanche or Colombard grapes. In fact, those are only two of the criteria required by the Bureau National Interprofessionel du Cognac (BNIC), the body that has ultimate control over whether or not a brandy may be called Cognac.

Considering the specific processes required to produce the most basic variety of the drink, the most expensive Cognac in the world must be something special indeed.

World’s most expensive Cognac

Called Henri IV Dudognon Heritage after the French king whose descendents have been producing this wine since 1776, this particular wine was aged for 100 years in barrels that were air dried for five years before use. The final product is 41% alcohol (82 proof).

That alone wasn’t enough to make it the world’s most expensive Cognac, though. The priciest aspect isn’t the wine itself, but the packaging. Dipped in 24k gold and sterling platinum, the bottle was adorned with 6,500 brilliant cut diamonds by its designer, jeweler Jose Davalos.

The final price of this costly Cognac is £1 million (around $2 million USD) and, if you’ve been paying any attention at all, it shouldn’t surprise you that Tequila Ley, the Mexican distilling company responsible for the expensive brandy, is planning to sell it in Dubai.

If anyone has a bottle and would like to invite me round for taste, please feel free! Also, if anyone has an empty bottle they are about to recycle, again, let me know!

Okay, but does anyone actually know what the most expensive brand is based on the quality of the actual bloody cognac and not the fact that the bottle is made of shiny things and so tacky that only a celebutante or a rapper would want to own it?

I’ve recently enjoyed a bottle of 120 proof cognac which came from vietnam. Inside the bottle was a baby cobra with a scorpion in it’s mouth. Can you believe this!? And yes ! Just like the worm in the bottle of tequila you can eat the scorpion and the cobra. I have one more bottle which I would consider selling for the right price!

If you get any bottle from Vietnam, those are junks. They are experts in making fake ones. Be careful not to poison yourself or the others

I agree and from my understanding in order for it to be cognac it has to be made from grapes grrown specifically in specific regions in france, and and Im pretty sure it has to come from france as well so your pretty much buying brandy with a snake inside it, so if the decanter was sealed with the snake or its not made out of crystal, and if its not made by remmy martin and it actually says louie IV and not louie XIII, yo ugot ripped of and have the liquid tested before you drink it. Might end up drinking something with formaldeyhde.

For actual content value much less than the bottle there is the following:

Hennessy:

Richard Hennessy: $3,000 about 150 of which is the Baccarat decanter

Hennessy Ellipse: $6,500

Also perhaps beaute-du-siecle $200,000 only about $10,000 of which is for the Baccarat decanter service in which it is packaged. Consider the price of any bottle compared to its contents and this isn’t out of line for such expensive brandy (oooops) cognac.

Hennessy is the most popular brand but each of the big Cognac houses have a similar line. I’d also look at Remy Martin for example:
