They say the clothes make the man. That’s probably less true today than when you could tell a man’s occupation by the hat he wore, but if it’s true of anything then it’s true of the world’s most expensive shirt.

Swedish shirt-making company Eton, celebrating their 80th birthday, created this shirt out of the finest Egyptian cotton. Of course, it couldn’t be the most expensive shirt in the world without a few diamonds. Both the studs and the cufflinks are encrusted with diamonds, white diamonds on the cufflinks and colored diamonds on the studs.

World's most expensive shirt

As if that isn’t enough, the dress shirt will be touring the world before it’s sold at auction next year. The luxurious shirt will make stops in Milan, LA, Stockholm and a few other places with Eton stores.

The most expensive shirt is valued at £23,000 (over $45,000). Proceeds from its sale will go to charity.

Eton is not from Switzerland, it is from Sweden

Rayner & Sturgess shirting is however, the finest shirt a chap can wear.
Charity apart, the rag above wouldn’t look out of place covering the back of B.J Cool Jay, Snoopy Dog, or a Lower East Side pimp who had just enjoyed a successful shipment of cheap East Europeans.

Thank you for the correction. The shirts are made in Switzerland but, yes, the company is based in Sweden.

Thank HEAVEN it’s being auctioned off for Charity. Certainly no gentleman would be caught dead wearing this over-the-top “encrusted with diamonds” shirt. This is the stuff of pimps and rap artists and maybe successful drug dealers. I could imagine a celeb buying it and then wearing it on a telethon (ie: Jerry Lewis from his walker with built-in life support systems as he flogs the telethon ONE MORE TIME to raise cash for some charity or another…) but I cannot conceive of a “real” person wearing this thing for anything other than a joke. In this day of families loosing homes, and jobs and living in cars and tents, $45k for a shirt is not much of a joke! Frankly, given our present economy – even if someone were to spend $45k on this thing – wearing it would be in such extreme bad taste that it defies description!

People who bash on this doesn’t understand the concept of owning something as rare as this… Its a collectible not something that you are going to wear on a regular basis, its basically the bragging rights you get with the shirt. “Oh look I have the most expensive shirt in the world” is of more value to a collector then its appearances…

Hey, dudes! Wanna look like high & mighty? Then try something very simple, handmade by any (british, italian or french!) shirtmaker, even without “a name”. It’s enough. Always remember this old dutch proverb: “Old money doesn’t need showing off!”…

I might be a girl but I am still putting out my oppion and it is that why would someone pay so much money when you can go to all mall or something where every you people shop and get one for less then 100 dollors it makes no sence to me like frig it makes sence to a wedding dress but a white dress shirt. It is going to get all dirty at one point and you will try yo get it out but it will never get out and someone probley just went to the mall and bouth that shirt just to let yeah all now.
