Most Expensive Horse Sold At Auction

Written by: tom Filed Under: Collectibles, World on March 1st, 2006

Horses have long been one of the most important domesticated animals, helping transport people and cargo and being used in the field of battle. As the horse has been replaced in work activity by machines, many have not abandoned their amazement of the horse’s speed and power. The ancient sport of horse racing now showcases the traits of these important animals, and the desire to create the fastest horse, has also created the most expensive horse ever sold at auction.

The previous record from 1985 of $13.1 million US dollars was set the for the Thoroughbred Seattle Dancer, whose lineage included Triple Crown winner Seattle Slew, according to reports.

But that record has been broken, and now the most expensive horse ever sold is an unnamed 2-year-old Florida-born colt, and you can bet this expensive Thoroughbred is on a path straight to the Kentucky Derby. The expensive colt reportedly went for $16,000,000 USD.

The expensive horse has never raced but is descended from 2 Kentucky Derby winners, and the colt scored the fastest time among the 154 racehorses sold at Calder Race Course, wowing prospective buyers by running an eighth of a mile in under 10 seconds.

Buying horses is a risky business, but if this expensive colt is a success, it could be at racing at the Kentucky Derby in 2007, and we will see if the auction price predicted the winner’s circle.

I want that horse instead of a pony.

That 16 million dollar two year old was just retired as a four year old and never won a race. The Green Monkey raced three times and was never better than third. He’s been retired to stud in Florida.

It is so sad to think that people will pay that amount of money and if the horse does not perform it is either put down and sold and dogs meat or if lucky find a loving home but that is man – money breeds greed!

That seems quite expensive, but the real question is; how expensive will the hamburgers be after the horse“s visit to the butcher shop?

my father is a jockey…and a few mill for a horse is not unusual.

andddd I would like to add that race horses are treated well after they retire, people in the horse industry love horses. The owners get into it not bc they want to make money but bc they love the industry. They don’t become burgers..

horses 4 that amount are 4 one thing to win the most valuble races in the world and if that horse by the age of three has won these races he is sent to stud to recoup that 16 million, and some, and yes they are well treated after retirement better than most people i might add
