World's Most Expensive Pokémon Cards - Pikachu Illustrator
Pikachu Illustrator

The Pokémon craze may have died down somewhat, but Nintendo’s media franchise still has a devoted fan base. While originally released as a pair of Game Boy games, Pokémon’s popularity led to a cartoon series, several feature length films and, of course, a collectible card game.

World's Most Expensive Pokémon Cards - Charizard
Charizard

The most expensive Pokémon card in the world is the Pikachu Illustrator card. Only six of these cards exist. They were created for a contest run by CoroCoro magazine in which children were invited to design their own Pokémon cards. The six winners won these holofoil trophy cards. They have been valued at up to $20,000.

Of the mass produced Pokémon cards, the most popular and expensive card is Charizard. It’s valued for its high HP of 120 and its devastating “Fire Spin” attack. It can fetch up to $125, but only if it’s a first edition card.

Holy CRAP… I used to have a 1st edition Charizard card… I remember it distinctly because I asked my dad what 1st edition meant.

It got eaten by our dog.

Reply

bulldog June 17, 2011 at 3:53 pm

There's a star in the bottom-right corner if it's 1st edition. It's a dot if it's Unlimited.

My dad was heavily into the Pokemon card game, but only for the profit. It didn’t last long, maybe 3 months, but it was really neat seeing all the rare cards of that time every month in the Becketts(sp?).

A few of them went by, but never the ultra rare card of that time. Happy Birthday Pikachu holofoil.
(I was young. I didn’t know about the rare cards in other places yet.)

Wouldn't it be funny if you were rich, bought one of these cards, took it to a Pokemon convention, showed it off, then light it on fire?

I mean, just think of the look on those nerds' faces…

The sound quality coming out of HiFi is totally dependant on the sound quality going in, it starts with the LP pressing and ends with the loudspeakers. It doesn't matter if your deck cost a million, it won't improve if you've got a dodgy amp or speakers. Some very fine equipment costing a few thousand will be more than adequate for most people, the improvement in mega expensive kit is usually in looks, tests from labs will debate the addition of a Mhz and status seeking HiFi buffs want that extra specification. Stockings has it right, He'd sit and look at it all day. I wonder if the rich Saudi with solid gold taps gets superior water.
