World's Most Expensive Saxophone

Unveiled at the Thailand Millionaire Expo, an event held in honor of that country’s King Bhumipol, the world’s most expensive saxophone is a hard one to miss. It was created by Diamonds in Glass, an aptly-named workshop that specializes in combining diamonds and glass.

This silica sax is made of glass plated with 2.82 ounces of gold and adorned with ten 2-carat diamonds. The magnificent instrument was handmade, taking a total of sixty-five hours to create.

It was presented at the November 2007 event as a piece to be auctioned to benefit the Princess Pa Foundation. The most expensive saxophone in the world was estimated to be worth over $60,000.

thats unbelievable, i play all the saxaphones, so i would know;) even thought my favorite is bari, that sax looks like a horrible play, even though the pic makes it look like the size of an alto, and the neck is curved like a tenor. the materials would make it sound ahrsh and raspy, along with it missing some of the alternative fingering’s keys. doesnt look like a playing horn, more like a “look at me, im so cool i have a douchey unplayable sax!” kind of sax. :)

It’s worth alot of money…. but with those matireals the sound woudn’t be nice enough for a band or solo for a concert…. if I could try it out and judge the sound of it, and if it sounds good…. I would definetly buy it…. but I think the glass wouldn’t give it the right vibrations… its nice for a museum though.
