World's Most Expensive Sushi

Filipino chef Angelito Araneta, Jr. specializes in extravagant foods to be used during courtship and marriage proposals. In 2009, he created a $2,500 “carat” cake coated completely in gold flake and topped with diamonds. In 2010, he created a dish that looked somewhat more, well, edible—the most expensive sushi in the world.

Each of the five pieces on this sushi plate is covered with a leaf of edible gold and garnished with a .2-carat African diamond. The plate was presented at a Milanan restaurant in June.

The dish was valued at 91,800 pesos, or just under $2,000.

I like this blog, but whenever I see a gold/diamond covered thing it seems too obvious. It would be great if you could post alternatives in every story that aren’t gold/diamond based.

I like learning about products that are expensive for their own reason and merit, and not just because diamonds/gold are added to them.

In this story you could mention Bluefin Tuna and other expensive fish for example…

i am very astonished on how he priced this one in this site. the value of this in the philippines is Php 102,816.00 or USD 2,284.80 the price here might probably for govt employees which no need to pay their 12% VAT. however, i think he just want his sushi to be affordable for everyone. good job though! Proudly Filipino!

The customer is mainly paying for the gold and diamonds. His sushi rolls consists of…..imitation crab and white rice? Haha really? Those two are among the cheapest ingredients you will find in Japanese cuisine.
