Tour de l’Ile, Vacheron Constantin

Written by: tom Filed Under: Collectibles, Fashion, Luxury, World on February 22nd, 2006

The Swiss watchmaker Vacheron Constantin marked its 250th anniversary in 2005 with the year’s most expensive watch. Its name refers to one of the historical sites of the venerable company, located next to the current Maison Vacheron Constantin on the Quai de l’Ile. At $1.5 million, this is the most expensive watch this year.

Most Expensive Watch
Tour de l’Ile, Vacheron Constantin
$1,500,000 US dollars

The expensive watch is also the most complicated double-face watch, and only produced in a limited edition of 7. Tour de l’Ile is made with a totally original combination of horological complications and astronomical indications composing a list of sixteen different points including a minute repeater, sunset time, perpetual calendar, second time zone, a tourbillon device, the equation of time and the representation of the night sky.

But Patek Philippe’s 5002 (which is the world’s most complicated wristwatch) also retails for $1,500,000 US dollars. In fact, it is even rarer with only 4 in existence (1 in each metal).

Richard Mille’s PERINI model’s retail is more expensive than VC’s. Compared 2 A Lange’s, I’d go for A Lange or a Glashutte Saxonian. Or i guess if order a custome made from Phillip Dufor, it can go more than $1.5M. I think someone better revise the listing here..

What about the Vacheron Constantin Kallista? Valued at $5m in 1979, and currently estimated to be worth $11m

But can I wear it swimming? Is it an autowind? What sort of shock resistance does it have?

Seriously, for that kind of money I could buy several houses, have a trip to Switzerland to buy some actual useful watches, buy a few more shitbox cars, and still have cash for the second-hand watch market.

What I would really do with 1.5 Million is to RETIRE and NEVER WORK again. I have my priorities straight.

i love to see a man wearing a good expensive watch … .. it oozes sex appeal …..
    grrrrr

  21. Posted by Adam Hakim 14th April, 2008 at 7:32 pm

And I thought I rocked with my Rolex. Its worth about 5 to 6 grand today. I knew of watches made expensive because of diamonds, rubies, etc. stones added to the face of the watch; but I honestly never knew a simple watch can fetch so much money because of its simple (or not) design. I took good care of the watch. Today, i cant afford this lifestyle. The ppl. that buy these watches dont feel a million dollar loss. Its like 100 dollars to the avg. person.

  22. Posted by j 27th May, 2008 at 9:10 pm

there is actually a swiss watch that is worth 25 million. It has about 15 karats of diamonds . some white, some pink , some yellow

a worth watch shows the man…an expensive watch shows a mans personality…and its a passion or a hobby like all other passions…

  24. Posted by Neogeo 4th June, 2008 at 4:11 am

Damn I exchange to a friend with my grandpa’s Patek Phillippe Calibre 89 to a Rolex Sumariner. I don’t know its worth 6 million. I think should ask my friend more than just a submariner.

So has anyone ever wondered why all watch ads, including the watch that costs a million or so dollars, all have the time on 10:10? think about it, all watch ads have the same time!

  26. Posted by Nader 13th July, 2008 at 2:52 am

I just wanna know one thing: is it like someone actually wear this watch and goes to work everyday ?? I mean If I have a 1.5 Million watch in my home , I wont be able to sleep at night ! it will make my life miserable ! and if I wanted to sell it , nobody will by such a watch from me ! they would think I stole it or something !

  27. Posted by kkss 22nd August, 2008 at 12:54 pm

the most expensive watch costs 11 million dollars which was made by PATEK PHILIPPE

  28. Posted by russell 29th January, 2009 at 4:18 pm

That 11 million dollar watch is a pocket watch, not a wristwatch and if you are able to afford a Patek Philippe timepiece trust me when i tell you you are no longer in the “hood”.

ITs for those who want the best of the best and are willing to pay the price for it. Nobody should feel bad for spoiling themselves if they earned it—even if they inherited their money; its still theres. I’d buy it if my name was Bill Gates.

  30. Posted by montres 14th July, 2009 at 8:38 pm

    the watch looks stunning

  31. Posted by inojah 24th July, 2009 at 3:56 am

I don’t keep track of these things too much, but the watch was called “…the year’s most expensive watch…. At $1.5 million, this is the most expensive watch this year.” So, they are clearly referring to the most expensive watch in made 2005. All the posts were written in 2006 or later. Of course, websites have been known to have errors in them, but none of the posts so far have made any reference to what year they were talking about.
Who buys these? My guess is rich collectors first, collectors that are rich and have an interest in astronomy or finely made mechanical instruments, or rich people with poor impulse control. But who would actually take it out and USE it? Probably no one. Some things are a treasure just to have and marvel over. To SS, right on, I agree! Apparently dictionaries and spell checkers are sooo last year!

What’s the point – imagine how many hungry people you could feed with that kind of money, how shelters could be built, how many people could be helped as self-employed – I would die of guilt wearing that watch.

  34. Posted by Dongski 16th September, 2009 at 7:08 pm

I have one a VC, and I want it to trade for a F1 – Ferrari.
    Is there anybody out there?

Nice watch. I’d like to own one but it is not readily
available in our place so I will just look at it in the
    meantime.
