Most Expensive Calculator
Written by: jeremy Filed Under: Electronics, World on February 17th, 2008Mathematica is able to perform numerical or symbolic calculations, plot graphs, process data and much more. Originally released in 1988, there’s no doubt that Mathematica is the world’s most powerful mathematical software. However, its price tag has earned it another title—the most expensive calculator.

Mathematica actually consists of two programs, the kernel and the front end. While the front end provides a user interface, the kernel does all the heavy lifting. This means, among other things, that Mathematica can be accessed from a PDA while the actual calculations are performed on a more powerful computer.
The expensive program has a wide variety of uses, from simple calculations to extraordinarily complex projects involving some of Mathematica’s thousands of original algorithms.
Individuals may purchase Wolfram Mathematica 6 Professional for either $2,500 or $3,120 depending on their operating system. A wide variety of operating systems are supported, including Windows, Macintosh, Linux and others.

This is very insightful since I’m considering a college course in basic algebra. This program appears capable of finding the “x” fast. And, apparently, it’s all about finding the “x.” The price, however, for this software is a little over twice the cost of the only math class I’m interested in taking so maybe there’s a more cost-effective option like buying a TI30 on e-bay for $10 or so. It is possible, however, that I’ll end up getting very interested in more complex math so maybe this software will be worth it. Sounds very powerful but for $3,000 perhaps it should be. None-the-less, the article was helpful and appreciated.
Mathematica Home Edition is now $295
Mathematica isn’t even a close approximation of the most expensive calculator. You could drop a few thousand on pretty much any good example of a historical mechanical calculator without breaking a sweat. Take this one, for example:

who in there right mind out spend that much money on a calculator? okay my math teacher wouldn’t even spend that much money, you all are nerds get out!
umm…jessica its called trying to ge to a good school and i dont know how about passing colledge and geting a good job so u dont have to go and work at Buger King like u do
wat the livin mess is this the not alot of money sike
