Most Expensive iPod Speakers

Most Expensive iPod Speakers

iPods are an expensive and ever more popular electronic device. As the iPod has spread, so have the attachments and systems designed to interact with the iPod.

But here is probably the most expensive iPod accessory, and definitely the most expensive speakers being marketed for iPods. The most expensive iPod speakers are Hammacher Schlemmer Studio-Quality Triode-Tube iPod Speakers.

From the product website:

This is the first tube-based iPod speaker system, producing a luxurious warmth and clarity prized by audiophiles and previously difficult to reproduce outside of custom-built amplifiers of a handful of live musicians.

Developed and built by German audio technicians, the system consists of an aluminum-encased amplifier housing four powerful Class-A tubes which glow gently as they generate warm, low-octave sound that is virtually distortion-free, considered by audiophiles to be the most pleasing to the human ear. The tube amplifier smooths over distortions found in modern digital recordings while helping to compensate and minimize the quality loss inherent in compressed audio such as MP3s. The matching double-cone, full-range, speakers designed solely for use with this system faithfully generate warm, realistic tones using a single, highly synchronized chassis per speaker (reducing ill-timed and out of phase audio).

The set of speakers will only put you back a mere $3,999.95.

  1. claims its for audiophiles, too bad they won’t be listening to 128 mp3 files. i dont need 21 inch gold rims on my pinto. just plain dumb i say.

  2. or you could hook up some computer speakers for about 10 to 50$

maybe i can wired my iPod with my $150.000 wilson WAMM?

  4. Blah – misinformation abounds. Similar devices from Creative cost similar amounts of money; if you get something much cheaper than the ipod, it’s crap anyway. And the ipod will play lossless and high-rate files as well. I’m not sure whether these speakers are ‘worth the money’, but most audiophiles have ‘ears that defy physics’ – the most amazing thing is when I read stuff like “I loosened the upper right hand screw on my rack mount amplifier about half a turn, and the sound just ‘opened up’…” Good god.

  5. That’s ridiculous!
My ipod speakers cost £6 an they’re perfectly adequate.
Seriously, why do you need that rubbish when you can find perfectly fine speakers for so much less.

  6. i got just as good a speakers as them for a tenner in hmv lmao wot dikhed would waste 4grand on a pair of ipod speakers?!

Ok….seriously….if I had 4,000 dollars to spend on some ipod speakers……I’m sure an ipod wouldn’t even be in my agenda…..Ridiculous I say!!!

    My thoughts exactly. 🙂

  11. Well i think that anything that costs more than the item it is aiding is obviously false economy. Buy a laptop or PDA and stream the data via wifi into some nice speakers, probably cost more but then you will have a kickass system.

  12. They actually sound very nice. I own 2 Bang and Olufsen BeoLab 5’s and they are the best loudspeakers I have heard. For my bedroom, though, these speakers sound very nice.

  13. I have money and to spend on some ipod speaker.
It probaly would be my second thing on my agenda.

  14. Ipods are worth the money
Creative ones are rubbish they look awful

  15. Yeah, I bought these for my 5 year old, he loved them. They tumbled down the stairs so I bought him two extra pairs.

  16. What are iPod speakers?

Twink Speakers for $4K? I don't think so. Good sound is a question of the allocation of resources. You are going to spend $250.00 on an IPOD Classic 180GB IPOD, and hook it up (Line Out) directly to these $4K gold plated speakers? Ridiculous!!! Give me a child's Fisher-Price stereo speakers and a sliver of said money for a decent Digital Audio Converter, Pre-amp, room tubes and inter-connects and I will blow these expensive speakers out of the water. Most Expensive is not always the best!!!
