Written by: tom Filed Under: Food, Luxury, Travel, World on October 14th, 2006Dining is an experience that one enjoys for more than just the benefits of sustaining your body. Visiting one of the most expensive restaurants in the world gives one a true culinary encounter. Costly delicacies at an expensive restaurant can inflate a meal’s total price to proportions larger the weekly salary of some people.
If the hunger in your belly and the cash in your wallet are both the appropriate size, you could dine in one of the 10 of the most expensive restaurants in the world. Forbes has recently published their 2006 list of expensive dining spots and they are listed including the average cost (in USD) for dinner for one below.:
- Aragawa, Tokyo Japan $368
- Alain Ducasse au Plaza Athénée, Paris France $231

There is more expensive than Aragawa and Alain Ducasse. Visit the prices of L’Arpège by Alain Passard in Paris.
The menu dégustation is 340 Euros which is approx 448 US Dollars.
I recommend the Aragawa. Great restaurant!
Been to the Queue de Cheval, but never thought it would figure on the top 10 WORLD list. Probably top 10 of Montreal.
I’d be interested in seeing how they compute the averages.
You haven’t seen prices until you come to Denmark. One of the top restaurants serving new nordic specialities is NOMA, and you can be sure to get something you have never tried before, and at prices you haven’t seen that high. Another possibility is the italian restaurant ERA ORA, also in Copenhagen, but you must be very patient and queue for up to six month to get a table. By the way, both the abovenamed are granted some stars by the French published Guide Michelin.
The Herb Farm in Woodinville, WA is a 5 to 6 hour dining experience and the most expensive I’ve experienced at approximately $185 US per person. It is worth it.
what about masa in nyc? the fixed price is around $350-$400, and doesn’t include tax, tip, or drinks.
Queue de Cheval Steak House is a FABULOUS restaraunt, but one of the most expensive in the world? Well, not until the Canadian Dollar exploded against the American - we considered it inexpensive when we were there with a party of five from 2001 to 2007, once a month.
The steaks are a bit pricey, but not overly so, given the size, and I’ve never seen anyone NOT finish one. The appetizers, on the other hand, are HUGE. And don’t order the cigars from the bar, or the 35 year old scotch…
You can get out of there for $50 a head (not much more than most American restaraunts of the same caliber) unless you allow the staff to upsell you, and you will have a fabulous steak.
Oh, BTW, the atmosphere is no different from a Mortons or a Ruths Criss, so if you’re actually PAYING for that, forget it.
Aoki Japanese restuarant in Singapore. S$600+ per person.
For your kind information, there are restaurants in Stockholm and Beirut, which are much more expensive than Aragawa. Your statistic is not based on world research.
How about French Laundry in Napa?
There are SO many places as, or more expensive than those on this list. How about Charlie Trotter or Alinea in Chicago? Both are tasting menu restaurants, and both will easily run you $300/person. If you add a wine paring, you’ll be closer to $500 - $600 / person.
Per Se and The French Laundry, are both $250/pp. Why are they not listed for both best and most expensive?
what about Le Bec Fin in Philadelphia? Is it not as expensive as some of these others.
You missed Harry’s Bar in Venice, Italy! A full meal will run about 350 to 450 Euros, which beats out most of those on your list. And heaven forbid if you should like to order just a side dish. Two dishes of pasta, with a glass of wine each runs about 350 Euros!
Inn at Little Washington was once rated 10th in the world at about 340 USD without wine.
Iv’e been to Gordon Ramsay’s restaurant in London and it isn’t close to the price for a meal at the Ivy
Per se in NYC is 600 + per person w/o tip or tax and the number one in the world is el dulli in spain 3 year waiting list and only open for 4 months out of the year. upward of 900+ per person
try the dollar menu at mcdonalds…very expensive
Rozz in San Francisco, very hard to get reservations, at least 1 year in advance and the reservation alone cost $400. The price for one is at least $6,000, full 16 course meal.
