Anti-aging creams, serums and facials are becoming more popular as baby boomers struggle to maintain their youth. They are also the priciest of cosmetic products. The makers of these cosmetics would have you believe they’re as heavily researched and tested as pharmaceuticals but, usually, they’ve gone through only a single clinical trial before they hit the market.

Most expensive skin care product

The most expensive skin care product is Revive Intensite Volumizing Serum. Revive was founded by Dr. Gregory Bays Brown, the plastic surgeon who pioneered the use of EGF (Epidermal Growth Factor, a bioengineered molecule) in skin care products in 1989. The Intensite Volumizing Serum works under the skin using another such molecule called KGF (Keratinocyte Growth Factor). According to the product description, the expensive serum “augments the subtle loss of facial volume and plumps trouble areas”. The most expensive skin care product in the world retails for $600 per ounce.

Other expensive anti-aging cosmetics include Tracie Martyn’s resculpting facial, which employs a device that delivers electrical currents to the muscles of the face and retails for a mere $175 per ounce.

I just spent $3000 for a facial. The aesthetist, who claimed to be a medical doctor and plastic surgeon (but no certifications or medical education certificates were on the walls) called it a non-surgical face lift, and said she would do the procedure for nothing', implying that people do buy her customized and well-researched products.

Well, it was facial. She used five or six creams and massaged my face a bit. Following the procedure, we sat down and she presented me with a ten part system for sensitive skin and threw in a vitamin gel for %3000.

I felt a little better after the procedure, but would have felt as well after three nights at the Ritz in Paris. And the memory would have stayed with me long after the treatment's minimalist results did.

The crows feet were greatly reduced, and my eyes felt more open. But I think the eye opener was the unexpected price tag rather than the treatment. And a good moisurizer will keep those crows feet away.

Oh, the surroundings were fine, I suppose. But not overly impressive. Besides, I came to find out what this procedure was about, and I already knew what Louis 14 replicas looked like. I paid by credit card and left, feeling facially fleeced. I want to return the products and simply pay her for a facial. She said she charges $5000 for her procedure. What is a fair price for the most expensive facial in New York or Paris?

Why can’t we all just be happy with our bodies as we age?

I swear by Intensite Volumizing Serum. It may be $600, but that’s a heck of a lot than surgery! It has really helped with my deep lines and with my volume loss. I was skeptical when the sales woman told me it would take 4 months to see dramatic improvement, but she was right! Thank goodness I found this stuff. Expensive creams DO work better if you find the right company that uses the right products.

A heck of a lot LESS than surgery. And I meant to say… if you find the right company that uses the right INGREDIENTS. Sorry, I got too excited and mis-typed!

Fair enough.

Harrods et al do indeed have some wonderful creams on display, but it is the container that determines the price, not the ingredients! Our cream was designed for the £250 bracket, but we decided to sell it for around 10% of that, and put it in a less expensive, but nevertheless elegant Italian container!
