World's Most Expensive Tap Water

The Organisation for Economic Co-Operation and Development (OECD) has surveyed water prices in twenty Western countries. Their findings indicate that Denmark may have the most expensive tap water in the world.

Water in Denmark costs $6.70 per cubic meter. That’s about 2.5 cents per gallon–quite a bit more than in the US, where a gallon of water costs between .07 and .2 cents. Part of the reason for this price is that it includes the price to clean and dispose of the water. This practice has led Danish consumers to use water more conservatively, but it has also strained their agricultural industry.

The least expensive water came from Mexico, where citizens pay about 50 cents per cubic meter.

I would sell the water less to the farmers for that very reason. I think businesses in particular should get different rates, kind of like economies of scale I suppose to the mass usage. I think other countries should start charging more for water just as long the implications are thought through for businesses who require it to run.
