Most Expensive Truffle
Written by: tom Filed Under: Food, Luxury, World on November 14th, 2006Expensive truffles are notoriously pricey because they are difficult to cultivate. This makes them a true delicacy which some have called the king of all fungi. What is the most expensive truffle in the world? White truffles are the most expensive truffles and are more expensive than black truffles.

The Associate Press reported today that a real estate investor and his wife from Hong Kong have paid €125,000 ($160,406 USD) for a gigantic Italian White Alba truffle which is reportedly the world’s most expensive ever. The most expensive truffle weighs in 1.51 kilograms (3.3 lbs).
From the AP article:
Last year, a group of bidders in Hong Kong paid €95,000 for a 1.2-kilogram (2.7-pound) truffle, a purchase later named by Guinness World Records as the most valuable truffle bought at an auction, said Ritz-Carlton spokeswoman Claudia Hardt.
With the recent popularity of culinary televisions shows like Iron Chef, expensive truffles are being exposed to a wider audience than ever before. Who knows how much the price for a kilo of expensive truffles will cost in the near future, the records for these world’s most expensive truffles may not last long either.
